GHOST TOWNS 8/11/14

JIM'S TRAVEL LOGUE       article by:  James Thomas Fridas

Well would it be great  to have a tour bus take you to the best ghost towns in California and Nevada?  I'll bet it would be great!

Just one problem there are so many ghost towns where to start would be the problem!  I was doing some research and there are so many ghost towns some with a fantastic past and others kind of if you will,  like ho ho hum!

That is not what I would want to see on a tour of ghost towns, one town in the Mojave dessert was Calico, it has a town atmosphere and it shows well on a town tour this would be great and it has some well preserved buildings that one would enjoy the historical views and tours like these would be priceless, also along this route is Ryolite in Nevada which is a truly fascinating ghost town with a lot of carvings that are truly beautiful.

Another well preserved town that has some historic buildings and some really interesting sculptures for what look like churches, and other buildings that say what happened?

Then there is Bodie in Mono county in the Sierra mountains bordering on Nevada, this California city once produced a lot of gold, people just packed up and left, leaving furniture and in some cases cars as well to just get the hell out of town.

Then there are a bunch of other ghost towns in Nevada that include Nevada City, Goldfield, Berlin, Belmont, Hamilton, Gold Point, Aurora, Bullfrog, Rochester, Grantsville and Mountain View.

There are a lot of Ghost towns in Southern California and fewer in Northern California, but I think Calico is the best in California and I think some may prefer  Amboy a ghost town with some truly fantastic styling on the buildings that one would ask how come you are no more?  Even though ghost towns tell some truly fascinating stories it can also be a romantic trip into the past.

As soon as we can we will announce our new word press web site that will deal with ghost towns around the nation, and of course in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico so that you will be informed about all the good things that are available on tours, trips and family vacations that could be very educational for the kids, so I hope you will pass this on to your friends and others who may be interested in ghost towns, and by the way there are some ghost towns that are you guessed it haunted with ghosts!

We are working on a domain name for the ghost towns for our members who want specific information regarding ghost towns I am looking at word press for my web site through go daddy which is a fairly good host as far as I am concerned.

Throughout California there are a number of other ghost towns that are in fair whether condition, meaning the buildings are standing and there are signs of wonder and curiosity that one would ask numerous questions about, I will go into those ghost towns in future writings until then thank you for reading my newsletter and I hope you will continue to enjoy them.
